The Lynch Leadership Academy offers a unique cohort model for about 30 highly motivated and mission-driven Fellows each year, drawn from the leadership of the Catholic schools, charter schools, independent schools, and district schools across Massachusetts. Fellows are accepted into either the Aspiring Principal Program or the Sitting Principal Program.

Fellows participate in learning experiences characterized by dynamic interaction among practicing school leaders and scholars/experts representing multiple professions. The experience includes an initial program retreat, a two-week summer institute, and consistent coaching sessions and data-driven professional workshops throughout the year that encourage the continuous exchange of ideas and practices among current fellows and alumni.

The Academy is an innovative program that inspires, challenges, and trains urban leaders across sectors to effectively engage in and directly impact school change. We build the leadership capacity of school principals to attain high student achievement and enhance the lives of Boston-area children and families who depend upon the vitality and excellence of urban schools.

Participation entails intensive cohort professional development sessions, grounded in research-based best practices and emphasizes immediate application to the day-to-day work of leading schools.

May and January retreats (2 days each).
- May Retreat: Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 1:00pm -- Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 3:30pm
- January Retreat: Tuesday, January 21, 2025 -- Wednesday, January 22, 2025
July summer institute (8 days).
- Monday, July 8, 2024 -- Thursday, July18, 2024 from 8:00am-4:30pm weekdays
September 2024 - May 2025, 3rd Tuesday of the month. Aspiring principal fellows receive one additional professional development session per month, 1st Tuesday of the month.
- Aspiring principal fellows will also have a professional development session on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
Individualized school-based coaching, averaging 4 hours per month, throughout the year.
Aspiring principal fellows who need to fulfill the Principal Initial Certification requirements receive targeted support.

Sitting principals who are already leading, but eager to further develop and improve.
Aspiring principals who are assistant principals, directors of instruction, teacher leaders or central office staff members, who will be ready to lead a school 2025-26.

Name a time when you really failed at something at work and it was a complete mess. How did you handle it? How did you contribute to the situation? What did you learn from it? (400 word limit)*

Describe the most effective lesson you've seen and explain how you knew it was effective. From what you observed, what did the teacher do that made it effective? Imagine that you have just been appointed as principal of a struggling school. The school has not met its student achievement goals for the past four years, and very few students are achieving mastery on the end-of-year formal assessment. The student population is 30% Black, 53% Hispanic, and 17% White. Hispanic and Black students are scoring significantly lower on the assessment than White students. In your summer "get to know you" meetings with teachers and in the first few days of the school year, you notice that the adults in the building are very comfortable with how the school is running. Through classroom observations, you see that students are not actively engaged in their learning, and that teachers' expectations for student learning are low. Teacher talk tends to focus on what students "can't do." Most teachers work in their classrooms behind closed doors, with little opportunity for collaboration. (900 word limit) 1.)
